You’ve just signed up for a hackathon or a friend has given you a ticket. Now what? First of all, don’t panic. I know that it can be nerve-racking, but let’s define some terms for you.Read more
Life Sci Hack: a global traveling hackathon bridging the fields of software engineering and life science is coming to MozFest this year. We as Open Science and Open Source advocates want to provide aid to those who are improving and saving human lives regardless of business bottom line and product sales.
Interoperability is how systems communicate and transmit data in a seamless fashion. With the rise of data gathered and used by everything from cell imaging to robotic surgery, scientists have to store and analyze petabytes of data.
Big Data gives the opportunity for health or medical-related industries to optimize processes around their clinical trials, drug discovery research, and management of patient health records.
Open source toolkits like Pandas, Numpy, RDkit, MatplotLib all drive research forward. Our toolkit challenge is focused on hacking forward these open source libraries, starting our own, aggregating existing data, and continuing to share the research our life scientists need to make an impact.
Educational programs are at the center of knowledge-sharing and open source goals. Our challenge is focused on developing programs to raise the bar around modern scientific standards, bridge existing siloed fields like chemistry with technology, and provide unique experiences for emerging students to prepare for complex problems of the future.
Through machine learning, new mathematical models have been introduced to tackle complex scientific problems with a new perspective. Machine learning coupled with artificial intelligence can expedite the work and evolve our scientific method to produce the results and impact we need.
