About This Event

Bridging the Gap between Life Science and Software

Life Sci Hack was developed as a pilot project by Experimental Civics, BioAustin, and CapChem in an effort to produce an actionable event which could provide solutions to 4 core pain-points felt by those in the life science community.

1. Interoperability

Tracking of information between software.

2. Big Data

Dealing with large scientific data data for implementation and analysis.

3. Life Science Tools

Software package tools for the life science community.

4. BioEducation

More robust educational tools for the life science community.

Life Sci Hack is a Winner of Mozilla Mini-Science Grant:

Why Attend?

Bridging the Gap between Life Science and Software

Be Inspired

We are now at the pinnacle of creativity with new emerging technologies and innovative practices like design thinking and hacking. Join others to build your idea and knowledge.

Meet New Faces

We are the first event of this kind in Austin. With our company, academic, and technology invite list, you’ll be sure to meet some amazing people (and possible new friends.)

Get Hired

Can’t seem to find an employer or employee? Our invite list includes recruiters to help you all find who you are looking for and great fits based on the results of our hackathon.

Free Swag

There will be fresh food, cash and SXSW badge prizes up for grabs, stickers and much more.

Global-Facing

Our event is the start of something much larger and we can’t wait to showcase our hackers and projects in front of a global audience. You never know who might be listening or watching!

Learn Something New

Regardless of your experience, who is in your current network or what your skills might be, there is always an opportunity to learn at an event like this. Time to level up in the new year!

What to Bring?

Bridging the Gap between Life Science and Software

Pre-liminary to the event we will have a meetup for future hackers to showcase or talk more about their ideas and spur innovation. You are allowed to bring existing code to work on before the event begins so long as the project is not at it's near completion. Feel free to also use any recycled projects!

Check List

  • Bring a positive, can-do attitude
  • Your laptop (we won’t have spaces for a desktop setup)
  • Your own food if you have certain dietary requirements
  • Warm and comfortable clothes
  • A water bottle you can refill to stay hydrated
  • Your resume
  • Your existing code or recyclable material, everything is open source

Feel free to have conversations with potential sponsors and companies at our kickoff
SXSW is sponsoring our event and we will have prizes from them!
The venue will close at 10:00pm but feel free to continue hacking through the night!
